Summary of the role

The DevOps Engineers are responsible not only for the deployment of GlobalSign’s products and services, but also for ensuring their continued availability and security through use of best-practice automation and documentation. Working both with the Development squads and with the Infrastructure team, this role contributes to orchestration, deployment and maintenance tooling across GlobalSign’s industry-leading, high performance on-premise and cloud-based services.

Contractual hours: 37.5 hours per week

Reports: This role does not have people management responsibilities.

Travel: Occasional <10% of time.

Flexible working: We are hybrid working and would consider remote working with occasional office visits or other flexible working arrangements as long as you permanently reside in England. However, this role will require visits to GlobalSign’s Data Centre in London, and will offer the opportunity to be part of an on-call rota.

Main job responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Developing and maintaining scripts and tooling for managing the lifecycle of GlobalSign’s in-house developed on-prem and cloud-based architecture, including:
    • Managing deployments
    • Ensuring monitoring and logging are in place
    • Ensuring security best practices are followed
    • Automating of patching and update cycles where appropriate
  • Working with the Infrastructure team to deliver tooling for managing shared systems (databases, build and deployment platforms, virtualisation/container management, etc).
  • Working with the Development team to ensure that developers can contribute to the deployment pipeline tooling while following best practices throughout.
  • Working with the Architecture team to advise on best practices and the pros and cons of components in proposed systems.
  • Responsibility for complying with company policies and procedures, including but not limited to information security and acceptable use, and for undertaking mandatory in-house company training as required.
  • Undertake other job responsibilities and accountabilities within the remit of the job role as and when these may arise.

Person specification

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience. Engineering or related discipline highly preferred.
  • Proven experience scripting/development experience (Python, Golang, Ruby, Bash).
  • Extensive experience with orchestration, automation and configuration management tools (chef/puppet, rundeck/ansible, Terraform).
  • Experience building and running Continuous Integration pipelines for both on-premise and cloud-based architectures.
  • Expert-level troubleshooting and system administration skills (Linux, FreeBSD).
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience with the following technologies:
    • Databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
    • Networking (TCP/IP, subnetting/VLANs, firewalling and basic routing principles)
    • Message Queues (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka).
  • Excellent communication, critical/analytic thinking, relationship building (internal and external stakeholders), and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastic and go-getter attitude, driven.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team with members from all around the globe.
  • Creative and innovative mindset.
